Someone asked me about Finnish yarn shops and yarn a few posts back. There are quite a few yarn shops around Helsinki. My favourite is Snurre, close to Kamppi shopping centre. They sell lovely organic yarns from many different places, including Finland, Iceland, and Japan. Another store I like is Menita, located on Korkeavuorenkatu, also in the city centre. They sell Finnish brands, like Novita and Pirkanmaa, but also international brands, such as Rowan and Drops. Menita is the biggest yarn shop in Helsinki. Some big supermarkets and department stores also sell yarn. This can be a great place for bargains!
Back to the yarn I bought, it's by the Finnish brand Novita. I think this yarn, Seitsemän veljestä (or Seven brothers in English, a reference to the first Finnish language book published in Finland) is their most popular one. It comes in many different colours, including some self-stripping ones. It's a sock yarn, of course you can make different things with it as well. But I wanted to knit socks, really happy socks.
P.S.: The title says 'part one', that means, of course, that part two is also coming soon(ish)!
